Pet Sitting in Del Mar, CA
Del Mar is two and a half square miles that behave like four different towns depending on the month. In February the village is quiet and the beach belongs to the dogs. By late July the racetrack is packed, Jimmy Durante is a parking lot, and half the Beach Colony has been rented to somebody from out of town. Your pets do not track any of that. They track when you left and whether anyone is coming back.
Splooters covers Del Mar out of our home base in Carlsbad, about twenty minutes up the coast. We come to your house, care for your animals on their own schedule, and send notes and photos after every visit.
Racing Season, Fair Season, and the Weeks Your Schedule Stops Being Yours
The San Diego County Fair takes over the fairgrounds through June and into early July. The summer meet at the track opens right behind it and runs into September. For about a hundred days, Via de la Valle and Jimmy Durante Boulevard are a different road than they were in May, and the I-5 exits back up in both directions.
If you are at the track, hosting people who are, or renting your place out during the meet, you are gone longer than you planned to be. Dogs are not permitted at the racetrack, and a day at Del Mar is never actually a day. It is a day plus traffic plus dinner in the village. That is a long stretch for an animal alone in the house.
We schedule around it. A midday or late afternoon visit during the meet is one of the most common things we book in this town.
Dog Pet Sitting Service in Del Mar
Del Mar dogs are spoiled by geography and they know it.
North Beach, the stretch above 29th Street that everybody just calls Dog Beach, is the reason a lot of people bought here. The rules shift with the calendar. Off leash under voice control through the cooler months, leashed once summer restrictions kick in around mid June, with dogs kept off Main Beach entirely until the season turns back in September. Check the current City of Del Mar posting before you go, because the dates and the signage get updated.
Worth knowing if you are new here: Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, right at your southern doorstep, does not allow dogs anywhere. Not on the trails, not in the parking lot, not on the beach below it. People find that out the hard way.
Our dog pet sitting service works with the dog you actually have. A young shepherd in Del Mar Heights needs a real outlet. A fifteen year old terrier in Olde Del Mar needs a short walk, his pills, and somebody to sit with him. Both get sixty minutes if that is what you book, and both get an honest recap.
In Home Pet Sitting Beats Boarding, Especially Here
Half of Del Mar is second homes and seasonal residents. That means a lot of pets in this town already deal with more disruption than the average dog or cat: bags coming out, houses filling with guests, routines bending around somebody else’s calendar.
In home pet sitting subtracts disruption instead of adding it. Your cat stays in the house she knows. Your dog sleeps where he sleeps. We come to the animal rather than hauling the animal to a facility full of strangers.
Every visit includes:
- Feeding and fresh water to your exact instructions
- Potty breaks and outside time
- Play, love and affection
- Medication on schedule
- Litter box scooping and pet area cleanup
- Light house care while we are there
Every Del Mar Neighborhood, Including the Ones With Nowhere to Park
We work the whole city. The Beach Colony and the numbered streets west of Camino Del Mar. Olde Del Mar up the hill with its narrow lots and its driveways that were designed for a smaller car than you own. Del Mar Heights and the pocket streets off Mango and Boquita. Del Mar Terrace down toward the Torrey Pines grade. Crest Canyon and the homes backing the open space. The condos near Del Mar Plaza and the village.
We also serve the surrounding area, including Carmel Valley, Solana Beach and Rancho Santa Fe. If you are close and not sure, call and ask.
Overnight Pet Sitting and After Dark Coverage
Some animals are fine alone all day and fall apart at night. If that is your pet, say so at the Meet & Greet. A number of Del Mar clients book a late evening visit paired with an early morning one, which brackets the night and holds the routine together for puppies, seniors, and anxious dogs. For overnight pet sitting needs, call 484-889-8363 and we will talk through what your pet requires.
Biotech Hours Are Not Nine to Five
If you commute to the Torrey Pines mesa, UTC or Sorrento Valley, your commute is short in miles and unpredictable in minutes. A late experiment, a meeting that runs, a bad stretch on the 5 at 5:30, and suddenly your dog has been holding it for eleven hours.
A standing midday visit fixes that permanently. Same sitter, same window, every weekday. You stop doing the mental math on your drive home.
Start With a Free Meet & Greet
We come to your Del Mar home at no cost, meet your pets, learn the routine, find out which gate sticks and where the leash lives, and answer every question you have.
After that you will get an activation email for the Scout for Pets app. Pet profiles, scheduling, invoices and messaging all live in one place.
Then you book what you need, whether that is one week in August or every Tuesday and Thursday indefinitely.
